very new and unheard terms to me, but basic, and this is what I understood, Conservatives aren't being conservative enough?
Maybe I'm just engaging in wishful thinking, but I don't see US style conservafascism crossing the border. Harper is not at all my cup of tea, but he seems far closer to the kind of Goldwater conservative that Dean pines for, than another Bush. Harper is way too deferential to Bush, but that's a different issue.
Plus, there's the Canadian character, which, Focus on the Family efforts notwithstanding, remains far less prone to religious hysteria and flummery than the American one. Part of that difference is due to Canadians being immune to most of the American boogeymen--universal health care, gay marriage, pot-- due to their having gotten past them already. So the wingnuts don't have the same levers of fear that they do in the States.
One can only hope that Canadians keep the "wingnuts" in check!! I've got high hopes that they will . . . .
